Am I renting the storage space month to month or am I on a lease?

You do sign a monthly lease agreement, BUT you are renting your unit, month to month, for as long you choose. You can vacate your unit at anytime, as long as you vacate before your monthly rental due date.

Do I pay rent for my self-storage unit from the beginning of the month?

Whenever you want to begin renting a unit- any day of the week or month- is ok with us. Your rental contract will run from month to month and payment will be due on the date of the month each month that you originally sign your lease.

Is there a security deposit?

No. There is no security deposit on a storage unit.

How much do I have to pay initially?

You only pay the first month’s rent. We do not charge a security deposit or administration fee.

What about insurance?

We suggest you get insurance for additional peace of mind, just as you normally would for your home or business possessions.

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes. We accept Visa and MasterCard, credit or debit cards.

Will I receive a monthly invoice?

You can request to have an invoice mailed to you or we can email your invoice at no additional charge.

When can I access my self-storage unit?

You have access to your unit seven days a week, 365 days a year from 7am to 9:00pm at our 45th & Georgia location, and 24 hour access at 3rd & Travis.

What are American Storage’s hours?

Our office is open and staffed by professional managers Monday through Friday, 7am to 9:00pm, Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Who has access to my self-storage unit?

You alone control access to your storage unit, unless YOU choose to give someone else access. If you do give someone else access to your unit it is important that you give us their name.

What items can’t I store?

State laws prohibit the storage of certain items. In addition, you should use common sense when selecting items to store. You can store almost anything; however, items you should NEVER store include (but are not limited to) live animals, perishables, liquids, explosives, flammables, paint and cleaners. Remember to always drain fuel from gasoline engines before storing. Throw away anything that could possibly cause fire and do not store food or any item which could potentially attract rodents or pests.

Can I store my vehicle?

You can store gasoline-powered tools or vehicles, like lawn mowers, power tools, boats, snowmobiles and cars. But since it is both unsafe and illegal to store gasoline, you must drain all fuel before storing.

Do you sell boxes and packing supplies?

Yes. We offer a variety of boxes and moving supplies to meet all your packing needs. The quality of the cardboard boxes is excellent and they will last a long time. We also offer wardrobe boxes equipped with a hangar bar for your clothing needs and other storage and packing supplies that can make your storage experience as easy and as convenient as possible.

How should I pack my self-storage unit to make it easy to get to my items?

There are some simple strategies that can really help – like putting the things you’ll want to get to easily in the front of the unit. It also helps to label boxes clearly and place them so the label shows. Another good idea is always leave a clear walkway in the center so you can get to all parts of your unit.

How high are the ceilings of the units?

All units have eight foot high ceilings.

Is there a minimum or maximum length of time to rent a storage unit?

Our minimum contract is for one month. Your contract then runs month to month automatically self-renewing every month. There is no limit on how long you can rent your space.

What self-storage unit sizes are available?

American Storage offers sizes from 5X5 (about the size of a small closet) to 10X20 (as big as a standard single-car garage) so it's easy to pick a size that works for you.

Can I come and view the facility and various storage spaces?

We encourage and welcome potential new customers to visit our facilities. No appointment is necessary. We take great pride in our excellent customer service.

What if, I need more space after I move in?

No problem. Our manager will be happy to help you select an additional space or make arrangements to transfer your items to a larger-size unit. With month-to-month leases, you can conveniently increase or decrease your unit size at any time (subject to availability).

How do I rent a self-storage unit?

Simply select the location most convenient for you... and choose the size unit you want. (Using the search and information tools on our website makes it easy.) Then reserve your space on-line or call the location directly. We always have helpful staff available that can assist with any questions.

What must I bring with me when I rent a space?

You will need one form of current identification... with a photograph and signature on it... such as your driver's license or passport. We will also ask you to provide a phone number where we can reach you if necessary.

What type of lock is recommended for the self-storage space?

Disc lock is highly recommended per Texas Self Storage Association.

How do I make a payment?

Payments can be processed by mail, in person or through our website. You can also arrange to have your payment automatically billed to your credit card, or give us a call to process your payment.
